McLean Citizens Foundation Pledges $50,000 for Clemyjontri Playground Construction
On Tuesday, April 13, the McLean Citizens Foundation presented a $25,000 check to the Fairfax County Park Foundation to help build the playground at Clemyjontri Park in McLean. The donation is the first installment of a two- year pledge of $50,000 to support Clemyjontri, a very special playground where children with and without disabilities can play side by side.
Clemyjontri is the dream of Mrs. Adele Lebowitz who donated her entire 18-acre McLean estate to the Fairfax County Park Authority with the caveat that it contain a playground for children with disabilities. Since this was an unanticipated gift, the Park Authority did not have the funds necessary to build the playground. There was also a time constraint on the gift and the clock was ticking. The Fairfax County Park Foundation launched the 'Friends of Clemyjontri' and fundraising efforts are underway.
The McLean Citizens Foundation (MCF) is a 501 (C) 3 not-for-profit organization that provides seed money and challenge grants for projects that enhance life in McLean. In MCF's 25-year history, has funded almost one million dollars in educational, civic and social services endeavors, and projects to improve the arts and environment.
