MCF Grants
he McLean Citizens Foundation reaches out to all corners of the community by funding projects that actively serve the citizens of McLean in educational and civic endeavors, improving the arts, environment and social services programs that benefit our residents. MCF grants have exceeded $900,000 throughout our 25 year history of providing funding for projects that improve the lives and surroundings of McLean area citizens.
Here are just a few examples:
McLean Volunteer Fire Department - The McLean Volunteer Fire Department received a grant of $50,000 to help purchase a Heavy Rescue Squad vehicle to serve the local community. The new specialized equipment is used for automobile accidents, hazardous materials spills and technical rescues, such as trapped victims.
Earth Sangha Rain Garden -- To help reduce stormwater stress on Pimmit Run and to further public appreciation of our native flora, MCF is helping to fund a rain garden at the Marie Butler Leven Preserve, transforming the Preserve into a "Native Arboretum" - an extensive display of native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants. The project is a collaborative effort of the McLean Citizens Foundation, the Fairfax County Park Authority, the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District, the Virginia Department of Forestry, and the Earth Sangha, a local environmental nonprofit.
SHARE, Inc. - SHARE delivers food, furnishings and clothing to local families who have fallen on hard times. MCF grants have purchased a used truck for SHARE charitable deliveries and paid for repainting the truck after vandals covered it with graffiti.
McLean Projects for the Arts - MCF helped to fund a new entrance for the galleries in the McLean Community Center. The entrance is dedicated to Gerry Brock, long time MPA board member and executive.
Clemyjontri Park - MCF approved a $50,000 grant to the Fairfax County Park Foundation to help build a very special playground in McLean where children with and without disabilities can play side by side.

HOW MCF SUPPORTS PROJECTS
Financial support from the McLean Citizens Foundation can be in the form of:
- Seed Money. This is for projects that need financial assistance to get off the ground but that will be self supporting in the future.
- Challenge Grants. This is initial funding from MCF that will be matched by other sources of donations.
Funding requests should be for projects that will have permanent or long-term benefit to the McLean community. Application filing deadlines are February 1 and October 1 of each year.
